Ati Alternative Driver For Mac: How to Install and Use Them

@genik - I know of people doing it with the 2011 27" iMac its a lot of work and puts not going to get you the full ability of the board as the mac graphics driver will be in compatibility mode as Apple never offered a proper driver.

RivaTuner is a complete powerful tweaking environment, providing you everything you may need to tune NVIDIA GPU based display adapters. The widest driver-level Direct3D / OpenGL and system tuning options, flexible profiling system allowing to make custom settings on per-application basis, both driver-level and low-level hardware access modes, unique diagnostic and realtime hardware monitoring features and exclusive power user oriented tools like built-in registry editor and patch script engine make RivaTuner's feature set absolutely unmatched.RivaTuner supports all NVIDIA display adapters starting from Riva TNT family up to the latest GeForce 7 series and widest range of NVIDIA drivers starting from the oldest Detonator 2.08 up to the newest ForceWare drivers family.

In addition to complete NVIDIA hardware support, RivaTuner also provides limited support for display adapters based upon ATI RADEON 8500 and newer ATI graphics processors. All RivaTuner's features besides driver-level tuning options are also available on supported ATI hardware.

Using a 5770 in a MacPro3,1 (2008) driving two monitors, one DVI, one with MiniDisplay port-DVI converter with SL 10.6.6. Everything except OpenGL hardware accelerated apps work fine. OpenGL content creation apps exhibit various artifacts, jitter, etc., even though the drivers pass GLview tests up to OpenGL 2.1 100%. I think it is most likely that the ATI drivers are immature, possibly a bad card. Apple thinks it is a problem with compatibility; according to people we spoke to, the 5770 is only supported in a 2010 edition MacPro! I am typing this while on hold for AppleCare customer relations to see if they will exchange the card.

I just put an apple 5770 in my Mac Pro 2008, I get video etc, but no Quartz Extreme. I have upgraded to 10.6.6 and still nothing. Is there something else that I have to do? It seems that the driver is not loading, or is missing.

If you have an ATI Graphics Card then it is important that you update the drivers on a regular basis. You will learn exactly how to on this page. Firstly though, it is worth covering exactly why they have to be updated.

Your graphics card, just like every other piece of hardware in your computer requires software drivers to be installed in order to function correctly. These drivers will tell your operating system exactly what to do with that particular piece of hardware. In this case it will tell your operating system that the ATI Graphics Card is meant to display imagery on your monitor. It is a bit more technical than this, but you most likely get the idea.

Graphics Drivers, just like every other piece of software out there, are prone to bugs from time to time. This is NOT because they were built poorly to begin with (well, in some cases this can be the case, but certainly not when you are dealing with ATI who are known for top quality products). It is simply because it is an impossible task for programmers to recognize absolutely every situation that their graphic card will be used in. They will also be unsure about whether their graphics drivers will be compatible with other software when it is updated. Therefore when a problem is spotted ATI will work hard to get out some updated drivers.

Note: It is not suggested that you use this method UNLESS you know exactly what you are doing. Plenty of people have attempted the manual method only to find that they install the incorrect drivers and their computer ends up in a worse state than before. If you are unsure as to how to find the drivers then use one of the other alternative methods.

Once you have identified the drivers that you need then you will be able to head to the ATI website (this can be found at www.ATI.com). Whilst you can use other websites for downloading drivers it is not suggested. This is because there is no guarantee that the drivers are what they say they are. This of course means that you could end up messing with your computer.

Once you are on the ATI website you can browse to the download section. From here you will be able to type in the name of your graphic card. You will then be greeted with a list of downloads. You can choose the right one for your operating system (you may have to choose either 32-Bit or 64-Bit, so it is important you know which operating system you are using). The ATI drivers will download automatically in a .exe format. All you need to do is click on the downloaded file and follow the instructions. Your computer will then be successfully updated.

Whilst the methods mentioned previously all work for updating your ATI Graphics Drivers, they are not ideal. This is because if they are done incorrectly then you could stop your graphic card from functioning. Obviously this is not an ideal situation. This is why the VAST MAJORITY of computer professionals will not actually go down that route. If you are not confident that you can get the right drivers for your computer then you should use this final method.

The final method is to use a special piece of software such as Driver Turbo. The software utility will automatically search for the right drivers. All you need to do is press a single button. It will then install them automatically, absolutely no hassle involved. This is the route that you need to go down if you want to make things as simple as possible.

This now leaves us with your graphic card to deal with. Wurm requires a minimum of OpenGL 1.3 and this is usually supplied as part of your card's video drivers. If your card manufacturer does not supply the OpenGL drivers or they are inadequate then often there is little you can do except get another card. As each manufacturer is different, the rest of this will be broken down into manufacturers. For each individual entry use OS / Version / GFX Card / Status where status can be ok, broken for fixed #nnn where nnn is one of the corrective actions added by contributors.

Some ATI and NVidia graphics cards, mainly onboard and laptop models, are not supported by the standard drivers. You will have to get the drivers from the manufacturer of your laptop etc. and those are often outdated. Therefore it is sometimes impossible to get drivers that are new enough to support Wurm.If this is the case, then your only chance might be to use these unofficial, third-party drivers:

Sometimes the terrain will show a kind of red shadow. This can be fixed on Windows XP by installing the latest graphics card drivers from Intel. Version 5248 of the Windows XP driver is known to fix the red terrain. The current Windows Vista/Windows 7 drivers do still show the red terrain.

The usual motherboard setup (not user modifiable) is to share system memory to video memory. This leads to very poor performance. Add to the recipe a lousy OpenGL implementation in their drivers, and you get a motherboard that can play Wurm without extra hardware, but with lots of rendering errors, most of the text missing and clumsy gameplay. This setup is highly unrecommended.

This one is for the hive mind. I have a brand new Dell Optiplex 760 workstation with 4 gigabytes of RAM running Windows 7 Professional (32bit). This is a new box with nothing installed other than what was provided for directly by Dell. I installed a Saphire ATI PCI Express 5570 HD. Upon trying to install the 10.4 Catalyst drivers the system will blue screen. It blue screens during the hardware detection phase of the installation process. I have already performed the following trouble shooting steps:

The blue screen error (via Windows BugCheck entry in event log) is a 0x000000CA and refers to a plug and play error most likely caused by a bad driver. The problem is that the driver installation process never gets far enough to actually install a driver. The resolution center in Windows provides a solution of installing the 10.4 Catalyst driver to resolve issue (which fails).

I have a Sapphire ATI PCI Express 5570 as well and experienced the exact same 0x000000CA BSOD in Windows 7 when trying to install drivers for it. I tried the Catalyst driver on Sapphire's website as well as on ATI's website. I tried Catalyst version 10.4, 10.5, and 10.6 with the same issue. I also tried updating the Optiplex (755) BIOS to A17 and trying various BIOS settings to no avail. The BSOD always occurs when the Catalyst software tries to query the video card.

My work-around was to not let Catalyst query the card. I wish it was as easy as an installation option to avoid the query in the Catalyst install, but of course it can't be that straight-forward. Instead, I let the Catalyst software unzip itself to a location, located the driver .inf files in that location, and manually updated the video card driver (Device Manager->Update Driver->"Let me specify the best driver..."->specify location->etc). Two identically named ATI 5570 drivers presented themselves in the driver selection window, so I chose the first one.

I'm not sure if the steps 1-3 or just step 4 did the trick (I guess it was step 4)... butfollowing these steps I was able to install a Radeon 3450 in a DELL PC.No matter what I tried before caused the system to crash with 0x000000CA BSOD.Modifying "InstallManager.cfg" didn't help much: No BSOD happening but driver installation just failed everytime!

One other question I have is are you using the Driver from Dell or from ATI? If you are using the Dell supplied driver sometime ATI will put out a new release of a driver and Dell hasn't updated their drivers yet. Download your Driver from ATI. I assume you are double checking this but make sure it's for Win7 32 not x64 and not for Vista.

The linux driver supports page-flipping, so having room for 3-4 framebuffers is a good idea. The driver can leave the framebuffers in vram then instead of swapping them in and out. FullHD (1920x1080) for example needs a bit more than 8 MB for a single framebuffer, so 32 or 64 MB would be a good choice for that. 2ff7e9595c
