Committed to preparing our nurses as leaders within their profession, the Texas A&M School of Nursing provides the foundation from which graduates excel. The DNP program prepares nurses at an advanced level of practice and evidence-based science, emphasizing their capacity to impact the clinical setting as a leader and use clinical research to transform health care.


Graduate certificates prepare nurses for positions in educational and service settings, teaching them to critically evaluate and apply scientific evidence to clinical practice in order to provide high-quality health care and improve health outcomes.


Officially recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education as a national accreditation agency, the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) is an autonomous accrediting agency, contributing to the improvement of the public's health. CCNE ensures the quality and integrity of baccalaureate, graduate, and residency/fellowship programs in nursing.CCNE serves the public interest by assessing and identifying programs that engage in effective educational practices. As a voluntary, self-regulatory process, CCNE accreditation supports and encourages continuing self-assessment by nursing programs and supports continuing growth and improvement of collegiate professional education and nurse residency/fellowship programs.


The Long-Term Care Nurse Aide Certificate of Competence includes one course, NURS 9 (150 hours) that prepares entry-level nurse aides to provide basic nursing care to the elderly, ill, and disabled in the long-term care, subacute and home health settings. Students learn to give basic personal care, communicate with patients and staff, respect resident rights and provide physical and emotional support. Graduates are eligible to take the State of Hawaii Nurse Assistant Competency Evaluation Exam.


NRS 612 Theoretical Foundations of Role Development for the Nurse LeaderIntroductory course leading to the preparation of professional nurses to assume leadership roles in a variety of health care settings. Content areas include Principles of Leadership, Quality Improvement and Safety, Health Policy and Advocacy, and Organizational Systems Leadership.


NRS 645 Advanced Leadership Roles in the Healthcare SystemStudy of the roles of nurse leaders in managing resources within a nursing system to affect care delivery and outcomes. Issues and strategies for effective utilization of fiscal and human resources are emphasized.


NRS 680 Differential Diagnosis Course designed for family nurse practitioners to enhance assessment skills, formulate differential diagnosis, and develop therapeutic interventions for patients across the lifespan.


NRS 703 Advanced PharmacologyThis course prepares nurses for professional roles in advanced nursing practice with knowledge of pharmacological principles of medications commonly prescribed to prevent and/or manage adverse health conditions of patients across the lifespan.


NRS 711 Advanced Practice Clinical IClinical practicum that immerses CNS and FNP students into their respective role as an advanced practice nurse in the health care setting. Using the accumulated foundation of coursework, research and other evidence, students will manage illnesses in patients throughout the lifespan in a variety of clinical sites. Continuation of the application of primary prevention strategies and health maintenance will be incorporated into care. Students will be mentored by advanced practice nurse practitioners in activities expected of the role. The minimum requirement for this practicum is 167 hours.


NRS 712 Advanced Practice Clinical IIClinical practicum that immerses CNS and FNP students into their respective role as an advanced practice nurse in the health care setting. NRS 845 Leadership Capstone 1The capstone project is designed to equip advance practice nurses with the knowledge and skills necessary to advance the application of translational research in a clinical practice setting. In Capstone I students complete the theoretical work necessary to design a clinical Evidence Based Practice (EBP) project and write the first 3 sections of their project.


NRS 850 Leadership Capstone 2The capstone project is designed to equip advance practice nurses with the knowledge and skills necessary to advance the application of translational research and evidence in a clinical practice setting. In Capstone II students complete the data collection necessary to analyze a clinical EBP project and write the remaining sections of their project.


**Note application process exception for candidates who already have an Edgewood College BSN: Those who have earned a BSN from Edgewood College within the past 3 years, received at least a 3.0 GPA, and have obtained the registered nurse license are guaranteed admission into the MSN program upon application. No further application materials need be submitted. If a candidate has not met the minimum 3.0 GPA requirement, he/she must apply and meet all of the admission requirements to be considered for admittance.


The UA College of Education and the Capstone College of Nursing offer a Doctorate in Education (EdD) in Instructional Leadership for Nurse Educators. Graduates are prepared to teach nursing in community or four-year colleges and universities in their area of expertise. In this program, nurses that have an MSN degree enter the program to earn a Doctorate in Education (EdD) for Nurse Educators. Coursework for this distance learning program can be completed in three years through a blended format of online courses and one on-campus meeting in the fall and spring semesters. A cohort-design is used, therefore, only full-time programs of study are available.

Known for its high caliber and proficiency in online education, the Clarkson College online Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) program attracts registered nurses from across the U.S. who are interested in experiencing greater challenges, opportunities and advantages in their nursing careers.


The Nurse Faculty Loan Program (NFLP) provides financial assistance to nurses enrolled in the Clarkson College Doctor in Healthcare Education & Leadership (Ed.D.) program or Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) Nursing Education program option. The NFLP aims to assist registered nurses as they complete their education to become qualified nursing faculty. Recipients are required to teach for at least four consecutive years following graduation to be eligible for loan forgiveness through NFLP.


The goal of this program option is to educate nurses who wish to become nursing health care administrators (i.e., executives or managers). The curriculum encompasses systems, leadership and organization information, including theoretical models and concepts that are relevant to the role of nursing health care administrator. Learners will review and evaluate several health care settings and identify strategies to manage those areas. This program option prepares the learner to engage in evidence-based, data-driven decision making while pursuing high quality health care that is safe, affordable and results in positive outcomes.


The goal of this program option is to educate nurses who wish to become academic or clinical nurse educators. The evidence-based curriculum offers students the opportunity to acquire information about teaching and learning theories and strategies, curriculum or program development, and evaluation or assessment strategies while fostering an ethical perspective. These learners will also encounter technologies being used to deliver nursing education content and experiences, from classroom technologies to skills lab and simulation technologies. The nurse educator assumes the role of mentor, coach, guide and expert, nurturing student nurses and/or providing continuing professional development to registered or licensed practical nurses. 2ff7e9595c
